Homophones
Artificial intelligence (AI) is artificial. It doesn’t think like living intelligence.
Editing programs and spell checkers can only do what they are programmed to do and they miss certain things at times.
What do they miss?
Homophones.
Because certain words sound the same, they can be easy to misspell.
Coarse and course are homophones.
Two, to, and too are also homophones.
There, their, and they’re are homophones.
Hear and here are homophones.
Some are close, like then and than.
Witch which sits bear on the bear rug? See any homophones?
Obvious to most native speakers, these may elude software.
A homophone may sound correct, but can be the wrong word to use and cause confusion.
Correctly spelled but misused words aren’t caught by spellcheckers.
